Mentally ill people usually know that they’re mentally ill.

Mentally ill people can understand how their mental illness is affecting them.

Mentally ill people who experience the same symptoms

(panic attacks, hallucinations, dissociation, etc) on a regular basis can learn to recognize them and find ways to cope with them even as they’re still affected by them/experiencing them.

Mentally ill people aren’t incapable of self-awareness, nor are we usually incapable of learning how to recognize/adapt to symptoms that we experience on a regular basis. The widespread idea that the opposite should be the case is a myth used to take away power and agency away from an already marginalized group.

This has been a PSA.
