I propose a new test for storytelling: the unpleasantness test. Do the women in your show/movie/etc get to look unpleasant (more so than “cute disheveled”)? Do they get to act according to their own agency, possibly including being unpleasant to the male lead? Are they more than a pleasant and nice and always accommodating lamp?

Well, at least I don’t have to worry about this one…

Would this include getting to express emotion and/or physical effort in a way that makes their faces temporarily not pretty?

“do they get to look unpleasant” yes, i would say so

(I love how dirty her face is here lmao)
